€7 million boost for Wolfsburg as Hoffenheim’s Muhammed Damar signs
Wolfsburg identified a need for fresh attacking depth after a season of intense competition, and the club sees Muhammed Damar as a long‑term solution alongside fellow loan returnee Fisnik Asllani. The German green‑company side believes Damar can deliver a breakthrough campaign in the 2. Bundesliga.
The 22‑year‑old Berlin‑native will join VfL Wolfsburg for €7 million, signing a five‑year contract that returns him to the second tier of German football. The deal marks a significant investment for the club and offers Damar stability after limited opportunities at Hoffenheim.
Damar expressed a desire to return to the 2. Bundesliga, where he previously thrived on loan at Hannover 96 and Elversberg. Those spells highlighted his attacking potential and convinced him that regular minutes in the second division would aid his development.
At TSG Hoffenheim, Damar struggled to displace a resurgent Andrej Kramaric and the phenomenal Bazoumana Touré, limiting his impact. He featured in the starting XI only twice across 15 Bundesliga appearances last season, underscoring his peripheral role.
During that period his estimated market value fell from €7 million to €5 million, reflecting his reduced playing time and visibility. The decline further motivated a move where he could re‑establish his worth.
Hoffenheim’s recent acquisition of Elversberg standout Bambassa Conté further reduced Damar’s prospects of regular playing time in Kraichgau. The addition of Conté intensified competition for forward positions.
Several Bundesliga clubs, including Augsburg and Union Berlin, also showed interest, but the excessive squad competition at those clubs prompted Damar to favour a move where he could feature more prominently. Wolfsburg’s clear plan for him offered the best pathway.
The transfer gives Damar the chance to rebuild his career with consistent minutes in the 2. Bundesliga, while Wolfsburg adds depth to their forward line and Hoffenheim clears space for newer signings.
