£52m fee fuels Arsenal’s dilemma as Euro giants eye Madueke
£52 million was the price Arsenal paid for England winger Noni Madueke in the 2025 summer window, a fee that now looms over the Gunners as Fabrizio Romano confirmed the club’s negotiations with manager Mikel Arteta are “very, very close” and two Euro giants circle the player.
Madueke’s £52m arrival
The Gunners secured Madueke from local rivals Chelsea for around £52 million, hoping the England international would provide cover for Bukayo Saka.
In the 2025/26 Premier League campaign he started 16 matches, yet this season he has featured only twice as a substitute.
Last season he amassed a high number of minutes as injuries forced Arteta to rely on him, but Saka has returned to full fitness at the start of the campaign, leaving Madueke with a reduced role under head coach Mikel Arteta.
Madueke remains under contract until 2030, meaning Arsenal face no immediate pressure to sell and would risk a squad shortage if they off‑load him without a replacement for the second half of the season.

European interest intensifies
Juventus and Atletico Madrid, two Euro giants, are monitoring the winger closely, with a January loan‑with‑option‑to‑buy described as the most realistic route for a move.
Fabrizio Romano announced on his YouTube channel that talks over a new deal for Mikel Arteta are “very, very close”, noting that Arteta and Co. consider the extension a top priority for Arsenal and that “So I expect Mikel Arteta definitely to sign a new contract”.
Arteta, who guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, has seen his position solidify after a perfect start to the new campaign, reinforcing the club’s confidence in his leadership. A recent Premier League team of the season list also featured a Man City trio alongside an Arsenal player.

With the winter transfer window looming, Arsenal must decide whether to keep Madueke on the bench or pursue the loan option, a choice that will shape the squad’s depth for the remainder of the season.
