€50.2 M injection gives Marseille a fresh financial lift, McCourt says

In the bustling boardroom of the Stade Vélodrome, fresh share certificates were signed as Frank McCourt delivered a new financial injection. The American owner poured over 50 M€ into OM, a move that could widen Marseille’s manoeuvre space in the upcoming Mercato.

Frank McCourt has reinforced OM’s finances with a capital injection of 50.2 M€ through his firm McCourt Europe. The amount exceeds the previously reported “more than 50 M€” and represents a direct boost to the club’s resources.

Capital increase fuels financial boost

L’opération a pris la forme d’une augmentation de capital. OM a émis de nouvelles actions souscrites par McCourt Europe en échange de 50.2 M€.

Le club now enjoys a stronger balance sheet, allowing it to absorb possible losses without resorting to bank financing. This financial cushion gives Marseille greater stability ahead of the new season.

In the context of OM Mercato, the added liquidity could provide more flexibility to target players in areas that still need reinforcement. The directors—Pablo Longoria, Grégory Lorenzi and Bruno Genesio—have identified several sectors of the squad that require upgrades.

Nevertheless, the 50.2 M€ is not automatically a transfer budget; its primary purpose is to reinforce the club’s financial structure. According to the terms, the money strengthens resources rather than earmarking a specific spending envelope.

Selon Sportune, the injection confirms McCourt’s ongoing commitment to the French side. The American owner has repeatedly “remet la main au portefeuille” to support the club after seasons of heavy investment.

The fresh capital may ease future negotiations and reduce reliance on external loans, potentially shaping Marseille’s strategy in the coming months. As the summer window progresses, the club’s enhanced financial footing will be closely watched.
