£40m Porro pushes for Barcelona as De Zerbi clash deepens
Pedro Porro, the Spain international right‑back who cost Tottenham £40 million in 2023, is actively seeking a January move to Barcelona after a deteriorating relationship with manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Contract saga and injury update
Porro signed a fresh contract with the north‑London club in June 2026, extending his stay until 2031 with an optional extra year. The 27‑year‑old, who lifted the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Spain, is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury but could be back later this month, according to the London Evening Standard.
Transfer rumours and Barcelona link
Spanish journalist Enric Canyellas reported on X on 25 September that Barcelona are working on a possible signing of Porro ahead of the winter window, noting the player would be delighted to join Hansi Flick’s squad and reunite with national‑team colleagues.
Canyellas added that Porro’s desire to leave Tottenham is fuelled by his poor relationship with De Zerbi and a wish to return to Spain.
Juan Jesus reinforced the claim on 2 October, also on X, stating that Porro is “actively pushing to return to Spain, whether this very winter or heading into the summer, and his top priority is FC Barcelona”. He linked the move to the strained rapport with De Zerbi, describing it as “terrible”.
Both journalists highlighted that Barcelona’s potential exit of Alejandro Balde could clear the way for Porro’s arrival, suggesting the Balde situation is the key to the deal.
The reports come amid broader speculation about Tottenham’s transfer market, including references to Manchester City’s Financial Fair Play calculations, underscoring the financial backdrop of high‑profile moves.
As the January window approaches, Porro appears much nearer to departing the Spurs than remaining, with his contract length and injury status adding further complexity to Tottenham’s midfield plans.
