€30m Inter deal for Curtis Jones leaves Liverpool Reds midfield thin

€30m Inter deal for Curtis Jones leaves Liverpool Reds midfield thin

Curtis Jones has completed a €30m transfer to Inter Milan, signing a five‑year contract. The 25‑year‑old midfielder leaves Liverpool, where Reds boss Andoni Iraola had publicly wanted to keep him.

Andoni Iraola explained his desire to retain the England international, saying, “Curtis is a good player, but I understood this… He is coming for some years in the same situation, so I knew from that moment it could happen.” Jones was in the final year of his Anfield contract, and Liverpool risked losing him on a free transfer.

Inter’s €30m investment

The deal sees Inter pay €30m upfront, with Liverpool eligible for up to €5m in add‑ons and a 10 percent sell‑on clause. The move follows Inter’s earlier €25m bid in June, which Liverpool had rejected.

Liverpool’s rejection of the €25m offer underscored their intent to secure value before the player could leave for free. The club’s final‑year contract situation made the €30m fee a decisive solution.

Future implications for both clubs

Liverpool are unlikely to replace Jones with another midfielder, instead turning to 19‑year‑old Trey Nyoni, who impressed in pre‑season, and prioritising winger signings. The Reds have turned down £50m and £60m bids for Yankuba Minteh and are monitoring Paris Saint‑Germain’s Bradley Barcola.

The Independent, which covers topics from reproductive rights to climate change to Tech, has also investigated Elon Musk’s pro‑Trump PAC and produced the documentary “The A Word”, highlighting American women’s fight for reproductive rights. The outlet stresses the need for reporters on the ground in this critical moment for the US.
