€30 million price tag revives Roma’s chase for Christopher Nkunku
In a twist that could reshape Serie A’s summer market, AC Milan have signalled that former Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku is now free to leave, opening the door for Roma to mount a €30 million bid that would eclipse their pursuit of Rodrigo Mora.
Roma had already pursued Christopher Nkunku in January, but with the French international now out of Milan’s plans the club can consider a fresh €30 million swoop instead of targeting Rodrigo Mora. The Italian capital’s side sees the midfielder as a more affordable alternative to the Porto‑linked forward.
Milan ready to offload
AC Milan invested €37 million plus up to €5 million in add‑ons and a percentage of a future sale fee to bring Nkunku from Chelsea last summer. To avoid a net loss, the Rossoneri would need to generate at least €30 million from his departure. His contract runs until June 2030, allowing a loan with an option or obligation to buy.
Amorim trims squad
Multiple sources today confirm that coach Ruben Amorim met with patron Gerry Cardinale and presented a list of players he no longer wants in the squad. Somewhat surprisingly, the list includes Nkunku despite his regular use in pre‑season friendly tests. Financial and age factors
Because Milan must recoup a sizable outlay, a €30 million fee makes Roma’s offer financially sensible. However, Nkunku will turn 29 in November, a point that could temper enthusiasm. Gian Piero Gasperini has noted that Roma’s hierarchy prefers younger, promising talent over established stars.
Roma are currently locked in talks with FC Porto for Rodrigo Mora, proposing a €10 million loan with a €40 million option to buy, but they cannot agree on the activation conditions. This impasse makes the cheaper and simpler Nkunku deal more attractive.
Nkunku already has Serie A experience, having scored a penalty against Genoa on May 17, 2026. His long‑term contract and the possibility of a loan with an option give Roma flexibility in structuring the move.

Reports from MilanNews, Fabrizio Romano and Calciomercato all point to Roma as the most likely destination, suggesting the capital club is preparing to meet Milan’s €30 million valuation.
