€25m stall ends Augsburg's Matsima pursuit as bonus talks collapse

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

FC Augsburg have walked away from a €25 million transfer for 24‑year‑old French defender Chrislain Matsima after talks with Crystal Palace collapsed over bonuses and payment schedule. The German side had expected the London club to finalize the deal, but disagreements on additional fees forced both parties to part ways.

Augsburg had identified Matsima as a ready‑made replacement for Maxence Lacroix, the 26‑year‑old defender whose €60 million move to Chelsea is expected to be confirmed soon, leaving the German side in need of a successor for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.

Sky in Germany reported that the deal collapsed when the two clubs could not agree on the bonuses linked to the transfer and on the payment schedule, with Crystal Palace unwilling to adjust its €25 million offer, prompting Augsburg to walk away from the negotiations.

Augsburg informed Matsima and his agent that talks had collapsed, even though the Frenchman had already secured personal terms with the English club, and confirmed that he will resume training with FC Augsburg ahead of the new Bundesliga season.

Consequently, Crystal Palace must continue its search for defensive reinforcements elsewhere, as the stalled €25 million transfer leaves the Eagles without the anticipated addition to their back line.
