€25 million gamble: Roma lock up Portuguese prodigy Mora
Roma will pay €25 million – potentially rising to €27 million with bonuses – to sign 19‑year‑old Portuguese midfielder Rodrigo Mora from FC Porto, a move announced on Wednesday that sees the young talent, who played under Francesco Farioli at Porto, join the AS side.
Update: AS Roma confirmed on Wednesday the arrival of the 19‑year‑old Rodrigo Mora, a Portugees midfielder moving from FC Porto where he was part of the championship‑winning squad under trainer Francesco Farioli last season. The transfer, long rumoured, is now official.
Transfer fee and contract
Roma is reported to pay €25 million, with a possible €2 million in bonuses, for Mora’s services. He has signed a contract that runs until mid‑2031, while his previous deal with Porto was set to expire in mid‑2030. The agreement gives Roma 60 percent of the player’s economic rights, leaving Porto with the remaining 40 percent.
Mora’s record at Porto
During this season Mora featured for a quarter of an hour in a competitive clash against Alverca. In the previous campaign he amassed 44 official appearances, scoring five goals and providing two assists. He debuted for the senior side of FC Porto at the age of seventeen and ultimately reached a total of eighty official outings for the Portuguese club.
Roma’s squad and future rights
At the Stadio Olimpico he will join teammates such as Donyell Malen, Devyne Rensch and former Eredivisie player Anass Salah‑Eddine. Should the Italian side wish to block a future move for the Portugees talent, reports suggest they would need to pay an additional €25 million to Porto. This clause reflects the 40 percent share retained by the Portuguese club, allowing it to profit from any subsequent transfer.
Mora, a youth international of Portugal, is regarded as a major talent, having broken into the first team of FC Porto at seventeen and earning recognition for his attacking midfield abilities.
Voor the deal, Roma secured a favourable price by incorporating the transfer‑rights split, while Als the club decides on his future, the financial terms will hinge on the 40 percent stake held by Porto.
