2028 contract secures Nadiem Amiri as Mainz’s creative linchpin
2028 marks the year until which 29‑year‑old German international Nadiem Amiri is tied to Mainz 05, as he announced on Saturday evening that he will stay for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, ending recent speculation about a possible move to RB Leipzig.
Amiri had previously drawn media attention and flak from supporters for refusing to fully commit to the Rheinhessen ahead of the forthcoming Bundesliga season. The hesitation sparked rumours about his future.
He addressed the supporters at Mainz’s Austrian training camp in Kirchbichl on Saturday evening. During the meeting he dismissed he was considering a move to RB Leipzig.
“I did have a lot of offers, but my family and I decided that I would definitely stay here,” Amiri said to thunderous applause from the assembled fans. The declaration was met with enthusiastic cheers.
Amiri remains under contract with Mainz through the summer of 2028. He arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in January 2024 and has since become a senior German international.
His development into one of the club’s most important players gives head coach Urs Fischer a central creative figure, experienced leader and one of the most productive midfielders for the new campaign. The midfielder’s commitment is viewed as a significant boost ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season.
